Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia since March 2020, several dentist practices have appeared closed or not operating. This is because dentists are one of the professions that are very at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to aerosol contact during action.
Responding to this problem, the IIK BW Faculty of Dentistry held an online seminar on Dentaforia "New Breakthrough in Dentistry" through the Zoom platform, Saturday (05/08/2020). The first speaker was drg.
Yanuar Kristanto, M.Imun presented the material on Immunology of Oral Mucosal followed by the second speaker, Prof. Drg. Rahmi Amtha, MDS. Sp.PM, PhD with the material Emmergency Cases in Oral Medicine That Can Be Threated During the Pandemic COVID-19. He explained several emergency cases that had to be handled directly, such as angioneurotic edema (swollen lips), unbearable tooth pain, bleeding, sudden loose teeth, Erithema multiformis to Chemical burn cases. In addition, he also gave tips for dentists who wanted to open their practice during the pandemic by applying Telemedicine and Teledentistry.
"To minimize the transmission of the virus, dentists and patients must exercise physical distancing while in the waiting room and practice room. In addition, an effective prevention method is to open online services such as Telemedicine and Teledentistry," explained drg. Rahmi.
It is hoped that holding this event seminar participants will gain knowledge about safe guidelines for running a dentist practice in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
