The Institute of Health Sciences Bhakti Wiyata (IIK Bhakta) once again demonstrates its commitment to community service through the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN). This year, over 600 students from various academic programs have been officially deployed to carry out KKN activities in 18 villages across Wates Sub-district, Kediri Regency.
The opening and student deployment ceremony was held at the Wates Sub-district office courtyard and attended by IIK Bhakta’s leadership board, representatives of village governments throughout Wates, local government officials (Forkopimcam), village heads from the 18 target locations, and field supervising lecturers.
In his speech, Rector of IIK Bhakti Wiyata, Prof. Dr. Apt. Muhamad Zainuddin, expressed high hopes that the students would become agents of change who bring real benefits to rural communities.
“KKN is not merely an academic obligation but a tangible form of service and application of the knowledge gained during their studies. We expect our students to immerse themselves in the community, listen to their needs, and provide practical solutions aligned with their fields of expertise,” he stated.
Wates Sub-district was chosen as the location for this year's KKN due to its diverse local potential and the alignment of community needs with the competencies of IIK Bhakta students. These include public health, nutrition, environmental sanitation, health education, and the use of health information technology.
The Head of Wates Sub-district, Mr. Subur Widono, S.STP., MM, in his remarks, expressed his appreciation for IIK Bhakta’s decision to select his area as the location for the program.
“We warmly welcome the presence of these students. We hope this activity will have a positive impact and support the progress of our villages, both in terms of health and social development,” he said.
For approximately 21 days, the students will stay and work in villages such as Wates and Wonorejo. They will implement community empowerment programs such as health cadre training, education on clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS), free medical checkups, and stunting prevention campaigns.
In addition, students will carry out flagship programs tailored to the specific needs of each village, using a participatory approach that actively involves the local community.
This KKN activity is an essential part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service—values that are strongly upheld by IIK Bhakta. Through this experience, students are expected to develop social awareness, adaptability, and community-based leadership skills.
Carrying the theme “A Campus of Impact: Strengthening Community Self-Reliance. EMAS 3.0”, IIK Bhakti Wiyata believes that synergy between academia and society will generate sustainable impacts toward realizing healthier and more prosperous villages.
