In an effort to deepen students' understanding of biomedical science and its critical role in disease diagnosis, the D4 Medical Laboratory Technology (D4 MLT) Study Program of Institut Ilmu Kesehatan Bhakti Wiyata (IIK Bhakta) held an Expert Lecture titled “The Role of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines in Histopathological Examination for Disease Diagnosis” on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
The lecture featured an expert in anatomical pathology, dr. Pamela Kusumadewi Putri Thaib, Sp.PA, who delivered an in-depth presentation on how pro-inflammatory cytokines contribute to inflammatory processes, which can be observed through histopathological techniques.
Through comprehensive, evidence-based materials, students were guided to understand the connection between the body’s immune responses and tissue manifestations examined microscopically, particularly in the diagnosis of chronic inflammation and cancer.
In addition to the expert lecture, the event also included a Knowledge Sharing Session (Alih Informasi), where students presented the results of their Field Work Practice (Praktik Kerja Lapangan or PKL) conducted at several reputable healthcare institutions. These included RSUD Haji Surabaya, RSUD Gambiran Kediri, Baptis Hospital Kediri, the Public Health Laboratory Center (BBLabkesmas) Surabaya, and Kediri District Hospital.
Students shared their observations and experiences from the field, which encompassed various aspects of clinical laboratory examinations, histopathological diagnostics, and laboratory quality management systems. This session provided a platform for students to demonstrate their analytical abilities, critical thinking, and technical understanding acquired during their practical training.
Group 4 – Hematology Division was honored as the Best Group, recognized for their high-quality data presentation, accuracy in analysis, and innovative delivery of their field practice outcomes. This achievement reflects the success of experiential learning methods applied in the program.
This event is expected to serve as an integrative platform combining theory, practice, and relevant scientific insights, while encouraging students to continually develop their competencies and professionalism in the field of medical laboratory technology.
Through initiatives like this, IIK Bhakta reaffirms its commitment to producing graduates who are not only excellent and ethical but also ready to meet the dynamic challenges of the healthcare laboratory sector.
